Notarizing International Documents which are not in English

We can witness and notarize or commission documents which are written in languages other than English.

If the document is not written in English, it must be typed as we will not notarize handwritten documents which are not in English or French.

Prior to signing, we use Google Translate to convert the text of your document to English, so that we can understand what the document states.

Power of Attorney for use in Ontario

A power of attorney is a legal document that you sign in order to give one or persons the authority to manage your money, property or healthcare on your behalf.

We do not notarize power of attorney documents for use in Ontario (a power of attorney for use in Ontario does not need to be notarized).

We do prepare power of attorney documents for use in Ontario. We charge $195 to prepare a power of attorney for Ontario, plus HST. This fee includes witnessing the power of attorney.

There are two (2) types of power of attorney documents for use in Ontario:

1. Power of Attorney for Property: appoints one or more people to manage your financial affairs if you become mentally incapable

2. Power of Attorney for Personal Care: appoints one or more people to make personal decisions on your behalf regarding housing or health care

If you require both documents to be prepared at the same time, we charge $145 per document, plus HST.

What is a Notary Public

In Ontario, a notary public is a person who is appointed by the provincial government to serve the public as an impartial witness when important documents are signed or oaths are recited. The Notaries Act provides lawyers with the privilege of becoming a notary public by applying, paying a one-time fee and obtaining a personal seal embosser.

Some of the documents and services that a notary public or commissioner of affidavits can handle include:

Affidavits:

  • Family Responsibility Office Affidavit for a Lost Cheque (administering oath)

  • Affidavit in Support of Claim for Custody or Access (Form 35.1)

  • Affidavit of Execution of a Will or Codicil

  • Affidavit of Service (Form 8A)

  • Affidavit of Ownership of an Non-registered Vehicle

  • Affidavit for a Lost Cheque

  • Statement of Arrears

Letters and Applications:

  • Application to Change an Adult’s Name

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Application

  • Applications under the Regulated Health Professions Act

  • Citizenship and Immigration Canada Custodian Declaration (Custodians)

  • Statutory Declaration of Misplaced Stocks/Bonds

  • Statutory Declaration re: Ownership of Property

  • Statutory Declaration of Marital Status

  • Statutory Declarations Confirming Identity

  • Statutory Declarations regarding locked-in Savings Accounts (RRSP, etc.)

  • Foreign (non-Canadian) Passport Application Declarations

This is just a sampling of the types of documents that we handle. We notarize, commission and certify many types of documents.

Please note that we are unable to notarize documents that are written in a language other than English and French.

Although there is no central listing of individuals who have been appointed as notaries public, look for a "Certificate of Appointment under the Notaries Act" as proof that an individuals is, indeed, a notary public. Notary public is often mis-spelled "notory public", "notarie public", "notery public", "public notary", "notary republic", "nota republic", etc.

We are not just commissioners of oaths/affidavits: each of the lawyers at our office have been appointed under the Notaries Act to the position of Notary Public.
